A Skeleton-and-Roses Toast to a Classic Deadhead New Year
🎉 Grateful Dead New Year’s Artwork
The Grateful Dead Shirt Rick Griffin New Years design brings together unmistakable Deadhead symbols in a compact, poster-inspired graphic. Centered in a circular badge, a sunglasses-wearing skeleton raises a glass while red roses, lightning bolts, and bold lettering create a festive psychedelic scene. The “New Years 1987” wording gives the artwork a specific concert-era feel, making this graphic a lively tribute to the band’s enduring visual universe and its tradition of ringing in the year with music.
💀 Roses, Lightning, and a 1987 Celebration
This front graphic turns Grateful Dead iconography into a New Year’s Eve emblem. A dancing skeleton in dark shades holds a champagne flute, framed by a blue-and-red background, twin lightning bolts, curled white type, and two detailed red roses. The combination feels celebratory but still rooted in the surreal, hand-drawn spirit associated with classic Grateful Dead poster culture. The 1987 date recalls the band’s New Year’s Eve performance at Oakland Coliseum on December 31, 1987, a show promoted with a skeleton-and-roses concert image. Rick Griffin is an essential name in the broader Grateful Dead art story, known for his influential psychedelic poster work and artwork connected to the band. Here, the circular seal format gives the design the look of a commemorative concert patch—part midnight toast, part cosmic road-trip souvenir.
🌹 Made for the Midnight Set
Wear this Grateful Dead Shirt Rick Griffin New Years graphic for New Year’s gatherings, listening parties, record-store trips, concerts, or any occasion that calls for a little color and character. It speaks to longtime Deadheads, psychedelic-art collectors, and anyone drawn to skeleton-and-roses imagery with a playful twist. The raised-glass skeleton delivers a simple message: celebrate the next chapter, keep the music close, and bring a little strange beauty along for the ride.

This is a really cute shirt. I am a woman and bought a men’s M. It fits fine. I wish the material was a little softer, but it will probably soften in time after a few washings. I might distress it myself for a more vintage look. Definitely a great shirt for the price.
